Establish and Name Your Own Project
Establishing a foster home in your name
Many dream of establishing a legacy in the form of their own project that will benefit children in need, but time constraints, inability to travel, unfamiliarity with a foreign country and its customs, and so many additional reasons prevent people from doing so. Assisting Children in Need (ACN) will lend its expertise to make your dream a reality.
The Process
1. ACN is contacted by a school, church, or private organization or individual interested in sponsoring a small foster home for children in need.
2. ACN finds a regional NGO that meets ACN's criteria for both account transparency and good communications. ACN, already familiar with the sponsor’s preferences, identifies both the special needs children who would benefit most from shifting from an institution to a small foster home, and finds the house parents/mother who would care for them. The foster home's location is based on proximity to a school, hospital, and/or other facilities able to address these children’s needs.
3. ACN locates the apartment, presents costs to the prospective sponsor, and the sponsor puts forward the money to purchase the apartment. The sponsor hereafter becomes an ACN Affiliate Member, assuming monthly financial responsibility for the foster home not exceeding an annual amount (based on regional costs) agreed upon by ACN, the regional NGO, and the ACN Affiliate Member.
4. While the ACN Affiliate Member adopts the foster home, names it, becomes its long distance financial sponsor (receiving reports on sponsored children as well as detailed quarterly expense sheets), the regional NGO assumes the responsibility for the day-to-day management of the foster home, including medical, counseling, and educational assistance for the children and training for the house parents. Once the foster home is ready to open its doors to the children and house parents, ACN then provides periodic narratives in English on the children to its Affiliate Member.
5. ACN acts as intermediary between the ACN Affiliate member, the NGO Partner, and your foster home children and staff so that you are able to communicate with those benefiting from your generosity.
Establishing an Independent Living Center in Your
Name
As children become young adults and are forced to leave the shelter of a foster home, a residential center, or an institution, they need to be taught independent living skills as well as vocational skills so that they can be independent and contributing members of their respective communities.
To adopt and name an Independent Living Center, the procedure is similar to that of adopting a Foster Home (see above)
Establishing a Vocational Preparation Center in Your Name
Too often young people with misunderstood diseases and disabilities (e.g., HIV/AIDS, Leprosy, Learning Disabled, etc.) are denied access to vocational preparation centers. A Vocational Preparation/Training Center is very much needed in Romania that would provide abandoned, special needs children not only with a workshop and classroom to prepare them for a specific trade, but also with an independent living center apartment for young people receiving both independent living skills training and vocational training. Ideally, quarters for both staff and vocational trainees would be included, as well.
Establishing a Vocational Training Unit in Your Name
A number of NGOs would like to open individual training units but need funding to do so. The procedure would be similar to the outline identified above but on a smaller scale.
Please note that since a great deal of thought and effort goes into ACN project development on your behalf, and then phasing out our presence so that you can step in (with guidance from ACN) , you should contact Dr. Klein directly for more information.
