Sponsor a Project
What project can I sponsor?

ACN projects involve abandoned HIV-positive children in group homes, abandoned children with learning disabilities, abandoned older teens who are learning the independent living and vocational skills they will need in order to support themselves after being institutionalized all of their lives, and children whose parents are focused on problems of their own and are unable to care for them.
Donating $8,000 each year can support an Independent Living Center for older teenagers who are transitioning from foster care or an institutional setting to independent living. While residing in this transitional center the young person not only learns independent living skills but also receives vocational training or additional education.
Donating $6,950 annually can place 10 orphans/abandoned children into a cooks-confectioners training program that guarantees employment post training.
Donating $5,400 annually can place 10 orphans/abandoned children into a hairdresser and manicurist training program that guarantees employment post training.
Donating $4,500 pays for a university education for one person.
Donating $3,100 provides a one-week educational vacation for 30 abandoned children in foster care or in institutional settings.
Donating $2,300 each year helps support a vocational training program that addresses the vocational training needs of institutionalized children. Currently this support is limited to green house gardening and furniture-making.
Donating $1,100 provides a small business loan to a young entrepreneur (post vocational training) that will allow this young person to apply his/her skills rather than remain dependent on charity.
Donating $900 can buy an air conditioner for a study room at a center for abandoned children (3 air conditioners are still needed).
Donating $200 can buy a door to keep out the cold. Currently rotten doors are barely hanging on their hinges in a center for abandoned children (200 doors are still needed).
Donating $90 each year ($7.50 each month) can cover the cost of medicine for one abandoned child.
Donating $60 each year ($5 per month) can equip an abandoned child with school supplies for an entire year.
Donating any amount can make a difference in the lives of young people whose "childhood" memories vary considerably from our own; young people who ask only that you give them a chance to pursue self-care rather than be dependent on welfare. Will you assist them?
Where does my donation go?
ACN earmarks your donation to an in-country NGO that oversees the day-to-day management of the project in which you are interested. If you do not specify a project, ACN selects a project in greatest need of your support. Once we receive your contribution (see "Donate") and your sponsorship preference form, we will provide you with an account of how your sponsorship money is being used. For large projects, you will also receive periodic progress reports.
The Relationship Between ACN and in-country NGOs
ACN requires all in-country NGOs who assist ACN to submit monthly financial reports on how donations are being used. Every NGO "in partnership" with ACN must meet certain criteria, which include account transparency and honest reporting. An ACN representative will annually visit the project you support, and you will receive an update on your project after this visit is completed.
How do I start my project sponsorship?
Initially you need to fill out a Sponsorship Preference Form. If your computer does not allow you to electronically submit the form to ACN, please print and send the completed form with your check to our mailing address. Please make your check payable to "Assisting Children in Need" for the full sponsorship amount and send it to Assisting Children in Need, 600 Cameron Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. For bank transfer information, please go to How to Contribute.
How will I keep updated on the project I sponsor?
After receiving your contribution and Sponsorship Preference Form, you will receive a letter or email from ACN acknowledging receipt of your contribution together with a profile and photo of your child. ACN will then request from the NGO partner your child's periodic progress reports for and sends these on to you. ACN routinely checks on sponsored children through annual on-site visits.
