The ACN Immersion Visit

To qualify for participation in an ACN Immersion Visit""

  • an ACN Chapter must be formed
  • the Chapter's fundraising initiatives have raised $6,000 in support
  • an educational campaign has begun about the children being supported
When these conditions have been met, eleven Chapter members and their adult advisor or university student organizer (in the case of university Chapters) are qualified to participate in an ACN Immersion Visit. The Chapter needs to then email Dr. Klein giving:
  • preferred travel dates
  • number of travelers and their gender
  • city of departure
  • name, email, and postal address of the group's contact person
Dr. Klein then works with the group through the contact person, providing
  • an application form for each participant to complete and send back to ACN
  • a sample Immersion Visit itinerary
  • additional orientation information as needed
""Dr. Klein then works closely with the group's contact person until the day of departure, and then either he, or another ACN Representative, will meet the group in Romania and stay with the group for the duration of the Immersion Visit.

Throughout the trip participants are assisted and receive support by ACN personnel. Since Immersion Visits can be emotionally challenging, visits to cultural sites are included in the trip. During days of "total immersion," facilitated group discussions are held to allow participants to share their observations and learn from those of others.

Once participants return home, they continue to receive, through their Chapter Advisor, updates on the people they met and places they visited. At present ACN Immersion Visits go to Romania only.

ACN Assistance During Immersion Visits

Assisting Children in Need Provides:

  • Total supervision and support throughout your trip
  • Pre-departure and/or arrival orientation
  • Airport transit to and from hotel in Romania
  • Accommodation in 3 star hotels throughout the trip
  • Ground transportation when needed
  • All meals with bottled water

Assisting Children in Need Does Not Provide:
  • Flights to and from Romania
  • Travel and medical insurance (participants need to work with their physicians to determine what inoculations are needed)
Due to ACN's extensive experience in Romania, we can offer the trip at a very low cost. We are able to
  • accommodate our participants in three star hotels
  • provide access to facilities that tourists are unable to visit
  • include side trips to cultural sites
  • provide daily debriefings
  • provide coach or van transportation
  • remain with you from the time of airport pick-up to the time of airport departure
--all of this currently for only US$ 870. ACN, of course, reserves the right to alter this total as in-country prices increase. ACN offers this unparalleled opportunity to work with young people in need while also learning about Romania's rich culture. At the end of the five days we spend together in Romania, the participant not only usually feels that he or she has contributed in a very special way to children with a disability or life-threatening illness, but also  feels that much has been gained through an experience of a lifetime.
